1. What do you think is the author's main purpose in writing this narrative?

        The author's main purpose in writing this narrative is to stress the fact that handicaps cannot stop hardworking people like Parsons to come up in life.
  

2. Compare and contrast the character sketch of Mr. Parsons and Markwadt?

        Mr. Parsons and Markwadt both are lost their vision in a chemical explosion. Markwadt always thinking of his fate and wanted to extract more money using his handicap. But parsons struggled beneath handicaps and succeded in life.
  

3. The author uses a surprise ending. To what extent does this add to the effectiveness of the narrative?

        Markwadt said that he was pushed aside by a strong man. But Parsons Said that Markwadt hauled back on him and climbed over him. Both of them became blind. But Parsons came up in life by hard work. Thus the surprising ending add effectiveness to the narrative.
  

4. Which man originally seemed to deserve our sympathy? Why / How do our sympathetic feelings towards this character change?

        Parsons seemed to deserve our sympathy. Though he was pushed down in the chemical explosion he came up in life by his hard work. But Markwadt who pushed aside Parsons was still leading a beggars' life.
  

5. How do you view differently abled person seeking your symapthy?

        Differently abled persons are not pushed down by handcuffs.They came up in life like Parsons. Most of them do not want our sympathy.
